Bite Prevention Program
The program has been operating for four years addresses the problem of dog attacks in the city and rural communities. The youth are taught the proper methods of interacting with wild and domestic dogs, how to avoid dog attacks and what to do should you be attacked. The lead dog of the Program is Stinky Leonard – a large rottweilers who is sponsored by the Winnipeg Foundation to deliver this program
Goals and intentions: Reduce dog attacks and fatalities. Educate youth on how to positively interact with local and wild dogs Increase awareness of spaded and neutering programs.
Youth reached Youth (age 5-12 mixed male and female) 1,800 Youth (age 13-18 mixed male and female) 1,200 Total 3,000
Our research and program assessment has supporting evidence to indicate that there has been a reduction in dog attacks in the participating communities with no fatal attacks since the introduction of the program
